There will always be some odor. Like LSZ said maybe he is scared you won't like how he does it. Or he may not feel comfortable performing oral from bad experience in the past.    You need to talk to him and let him know how you feel.  Just my thoughts on the matter.  Good luck! 

NewBee got it! its a 2 way street. We alwasy shower and there isno smell, nothing to hold back. Even for rimming, the same applies, very clean, nothing distrubing about it. I have always loved performing oral; smell, taste everything.  One thing to try (as my wife sometimes won't let me becuase she says she hasn't had a bath (doesn't bother me)) is either she goes for a bath and I 'dry' her when finished, or we both have a bath together.  Definately no smell then.
